Index of Lots
The next auction will be held in Peterborough on Saturday, 20th March 2010 at the
Ramada Hotel in Thorpe Meadows. This is approximately one mile from the
railway station. Viewing at the hotel is available on the actual
auction date from 10 a.m. and the sale will commence at 1.00 p.m. sharp.
Earlier viewing during office hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on the day
prior to the sale can be arranged by appointment.
The Standard Auctioneers Terms and Conditions are adhered to: Copies are available by e-mail upon request.
This public auction is presented in three sections: Section One (lots
1-16) consists of a few miscellaneous oddments and literature lots;
Section Two (lots 17-494) consists of mostly small folder size lots and
Section Three (lots 495-758) consists of mostly large folder size
lots. Sections Two and Three in the printed versions of the
catalogue are individually presented alphabetically in country order.
The internet version of the catalogue is, however, presented purely
under country headings. When a sale is current just click on your
country or countries of interest and you will find all the relevant
lots from all three sections listed (usually) in the lot number order
of the printed version of the catalogue. There also may be a few other
lots at the end of the page with connections to the country of your choice
Do not forget that we have a small search engine on our website. It is located just under
the buttons at the left side of this page. You can type in any key word/s
and you will then get links to any matches on the site. These will be
listed under the page headings. For example if you type in "Train" you
will probably get some hits on the "Auction Sales" and maybe also on the "Private Treaty"
pages but you will also find the references to trains times to our
public auctions in Peterborough on the "Venue" page. Obviously, you
should ignore the latter. If searching for something like "Train" it
should also be worth trying other relevant key words like "Railway",
"Locomotive" or "Ambulante". When you do click on the link to the relevant page then
the keyword will be highlighted in yellow and should be instantly
visible when scrolling down the page
We can also offer a PDF version of the printed catalogue which can be
sent to you as an email attachment. This is about 1.4Mb in size. Simply
send us an email to "brian@moorhouse.com" and ask for the PDF version
of the current catalogue
Details of the services we can offer for photocopies (black and white
or colour) and scans are given below under 'Important Notes'.
Please remember to mail, e-mail or fax your bid forms in early!
A Quick Word about our Auctions
All the lots in this public auction have been allocated Start Prices.
This is a minimum bid amount. We will respectfully reject any bids for
amounts less than the published Start Price.
Bidding steps are as follows: £2 up to £40; £5 from £40 up to £100; £10 from £100 up to £200; £20 from £200 up to £500; Over £500 in approximate 10% steps
Our Start Prices represent a price level at which postal bidders, who
have not had the opportunity to view the lots, can bid with confidence
knowing that they will be getting good value for money. If you
bid over our Start Price then, if you are successful, you will pay one
bidding step higher than the underbidder. A few examples follow:
Lot1 : Start Price of £50: Bidder A bids £60 and bidder B
bids £120: The lot will be awarded to bidder B at £65
Lot2: Start Price of £100: Bidder A bids £160. There are no
other bids. The lot will be awarded to bidder A at £100
Lot3: Start Price of £75: Bidder A bids £75 and bidder B
bids £80. The lot will be awarded to bidder B at £80
If you enter a plus sign (+) after your bid we will interpret this to
mean that you are prepared to go one further bidding step. Two pluses
would mean two bid steps, etc. For example a bid of £75+ would be
entered as a bid of £80 and a bid of £75++ would be entered
as a bid of £85.We do not encourage "Buy" bids but if we do
receive them then they will be entered at ten-times the Start Price
amount.
Bidders are welcome to enter either/or bids and may stipulate an
overall spending limit if required (excluding mailing costs). Bidders
are also welcome to charge their purchases to Visa, MasterCard or
American Express credit cards. We do not charge any surcharge for this
service. We can also, by arrangement, accept some PayPal payments for
smaller amounts from bidders outside the EEC. Finally, please note that
we do not charge any"buyers' premium". There are no hidden charges. The
only extra you pay on top of the hammer price is for mailing and
insurance costs.
Important Notes
Our website auction catalogue includes representative illustrations of
most or all of the lots. If we have an available illustration you can
just click on the "thumbnail" picture alongside the lot description and
this will open a separate window or tab in your browser with an
enlarged version. Simply click the window or tab closed when you have
finished viewing the item and you will be in the same place you were
when you opened the window.
Do bear in mind that if there are multiple items in a lot then the
website illustration will not necessarily show all the items. Please
read the descriptions carefully for the full information on the numbers
of items in a lot. Please also note that some scans may, of necessity,
have been made through one or more layers of clear plastic that may
well have seen better days so please excuse this and take into
consideration any occasional slight fuzziness or reglective light in the pictures.
We do still offer photocopies of suitable lots at a cost of 20p per
page incl. postage (Minimum charge £1). Alternatively they can be
sent by fax at 40p per page (Europe and North America) or 75p per page
(rest of the world). Colour copies are also available at £1 per
page including postage. Please note that we only accept prepaid
requests on these services from new clients. The easiest method of
payment is to quote your credit card number, expiry date and 3-digit
security number (Visa or MasterCard only for these smaller amounts
please). Clients that are known to us and that are regular bidders can
have the copy charges added to their final auction account.
For large size lots and multiple item lots it will still be necessary
to use the photocopy service. Please send in any requests as soon as
possible.
We may still be able to accommodate some additional scan requests (e.g.
to see the reverse side of a cover or a particular item mentioned in a
lot description that is not illustrated on the website). We regret that we cannot
accommodate scan requests for whole collections.
Illustrated catalogues are available through the mail on subscription
for £10 U.K. and Europe) or US $20.00 (rest of the world) for the
next four issues. The easiest way to subscribe is through our
electronic catalogue subscription form. Alternatively, you can post or
fax us a completed copy of our printable catalogue subscription form.
A printable bid form is available on this web site. Please ensure that
your bid forms are mailed in early. Alternatively they can be faxed on
01733-262838 (UK) or +44-1733-262838 (International). We also accept
bids through our secure electronic bid form (which can be used for
sending credit card information) or through e-mail at
"brian@moorhouse.com" and we will always e-mail a copy back to you as
away of acknowledging receipt.
Important: All bidders should quote full details of their name, shipping address
and telephone number when making bids and they are encouraged to quote their credit card
(Visa, MasterCard or American Express) details for payments. Please
note that we now need the full card number, expiry date and either the
3-digit security code printed on the signature panel on the back of the
card (Visa and MasterCard) or the 4-digit security code printed on the
front of the card (American Express). We also need the full billing
address for your credit card if it is different to your shipping
address. All new bidders are sent pro-forma invoices and a pre-auction
deposit may be requested at our discretion.
Insurance: We insure items sent by registered mail in the U.K. and by
registered mail to most other countries in the world. There is a small
charge to buyers for this postal insurance. This charge is equivalent
to 1% of the value of the material purchased rounded up to the nearest
£1.00. The minimum insurance charge is £1.00
All lots purchased will be sent by registered mail unless otherwise
requested (see next paragraph) and the charge for insurance cover will
be automatically added to all invoices. However, please note that this
insurance is not mandatory. We are aware that some people do have their
own insurance cover. If you do not require this insurance cover simply
write “no insurance required” on your mailed, faxed or
emailed bid form. The 1% will not be charged and any purchased lots
will then be sent at your risk.
Please note that items sent by regular non-registered mail at the
buyer's request cannot be insured and are sent at the buyer's risk.
We can also send shipments by FedEx. Please enquire if you are interested in this service
Thank you for your attention and thank you for your participation !
